About Us

The Parish of Pitsea with Nevendon is a Church of England Parish made up of two churches. St Peter's in Nevendon which is a smaller medieval church and St Gabriel's in Pitsea which is a larger and more modern Church.

Saint Peter’s Church in Nevendon is the older Church in the Parish and was built in about AD1275! Originally it was the Chapel of the De Bromford family but was extended in the 14th Century to accommodate their workers. Later still, St. Peter’s became a Parish Church to serve the village of Nevendon. By the 1980s, the village had been taken after the creation of  what is now known as the Basildon New town and the Parish was united with Pitsea in 2006 to become the Parish of Pitsea with Nevendon. St. Peter’s,  for over 700 years has welcomed everyone who wants to experience the love of God and find out more about the Christian Faith. We continue to do so today.

Saint Gabriel’s Church in Pitsea was built in 1963 and is the newer church in the parish. St Gabriel's eventually replaced St. Michael and All Angels on Pitsea Mount - the tower is still there! It is one of two churches in the Parish of Pitsea with Nevendon, and we welcome everyone who wants to experience the love of God and find out more about the Christian Faith.
